Career Services offers series of events for job seeking students

‘The SCAD-Atlanta Office of Career Services is currently hosting an ongoing event designed to guide students toward a career in their fields. “Career-Making Events” are taking place throughout fall quarter. The event series, which began with a resume-writing workshop, include everything from a gallery-owners’ panel to a publisher’s forum for sequential art students. Here’s an overview of a few Career-Making Events available to all SCAD-Atlanta students in the upcoming month.

Vivid Marketing Career Day will invite SCAD-Atlanta students to the Vivid Marketing offices in Smyrna for an opportunity to observe life at an experiential sports marketing agency, according to online press materials. Activities include a tour of the offices and studio, a keynote speaker and a panel discussion with Vivid employees. The program is open to students of any major, but is particularly recommended for students in the graphic design, advertising design, interactive design and broadcast design departments. The event will consist of two sessions, on Thursday, Oct.16, and Friday, Oct. 24, and will run from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. Students who are interested in participating are required to make reservations (at no cost), as space is limited to 35 students per session. Gallery Night, a panel discussion of local gallery owners, will take place on Monday, Oct. 20, in the 4C Event Space. This event is recommended for any fine arts students. The panel will discuss their galleries, talk about starting a gallery, and provide advice on how to get your work represented by a gallery. The event will begin at 6 p.m. and is open to all interested students.

Focus on Fashion will invite guest speaker Christie Dinham to discuss the fashion industry and her career on Thursday, Oct. 30. Dinham is the founder and C.E.O. of Fashion How, an organization that provides seminars, workshops and personal consultations on obtaining a career in the fashion industry. Dinham will speak about her own experiences in the fashion world, which began in 1989 when she walked in a runway show for the first time. The lecture will begin at 6 p.m.

Portfolio reviews and presentations by Blizzard Entertainment, a leading video game developer and publisher best known for its online “World of Warcraft” role-playing game, will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 4. According to online press materials, Blizzard is primarily interested in 3D character artists, 3D environment artists and 3D animators.

Artistic Director of the Atlanta Contemporary Art Center Stuart Horodner will present a lecture on Tuesday, Nov. 4, in the 4C event space. This event is recommended for fine arts students. According to the press materials, “Horodner will speak about curating for an art center whose mission is to promote excellence, experimentation and education in all forms of contemporary art.”
