It was the first-ever Ultimate Man and Woman event organized by the councils from the ACA House Residence Hall and the Spring House, said Jessica Merriman, residence director.

“We wanted to get students involved in a fun and friendly competition, she said. “We have some very competitive students so this made for a fun afternoon.”

There were three phases of the competition: mind, body and endurance. The mind part of the competition consisted of a bubble-blowing contest and a game of Giant Jenga. For the body segment, students participated in arm wrestling and limbo contests. To test their endurance, students had to master an obstacle course.

“We tried to think of things that would be challenging, but at the same time fun,” said Malcolm Barrett, second-year fashion student. “We wanted to see if the students at SCAD could do more than just draw.”

“Everyone makes it really fun,” said Jasmine Brandon, a second-year graphic design student. “We have some residents come over to play around with us. We’re here to make our residents feel more comfortable with their dorms.”

Veronica Mack, a third-year fashion student, said she, too, enjoyed the event. “I love the laughers,” she said. “I love hanging out and having a good time.

“My favorite activity was the Jenga,” Mack said. “It makes people nervous and I love it. It took forever. When we thought it was going to fall over, it didn’t fall over, and it finally crashed.”

Robin Benson, a second-year photography student, said the Jenga game was her favorite, too.

“It was definitely the longest game I’ve ever seen during my whole life,” said Benson.

Sasha Williams, a first-year fashion student was named Ultimate Woman at the event. Edgar Penedo, a first-year interactive design and game development student earned the Ultimate Man title.
