Guests walk through a gallery space at Atlantic Station Oct. 17 to view photography by SCAD students, faculty and alumni.

SCAD students, faculty, staff and alumni got to share their work with the community Oct. 17 with an art walk at Atlantic Station. The juried photography exhibition was held in conjunction with this year’s Atlanta Celebrates Photography event.

An unexpected turnout of about 700 people crowded the halls and rooms from 6-10 p.m., sharing their interests and opinions with some of the artists.

“This exhibition was one of the largest to my knowledge,” said Deidra Tyree, a photography graduate student. “I did expect a huge turnout, but surprisingly people stayed longer than expected. I was happy in the end how everything came together so well.”

About 170 conceptual pieces by 112 artists were included in the show, offering a wide variety of colors and moods.
The shopping district, between 17th and 19th streets, provided a unique viewing experience for attendees.

“The venue was a great turnout,” said Brain Steel, a photography graduate student. “I saw some really nice work, and this exhibition was a great opportunity for students to put their works in the show.”

Although the spaces became crowded and tight at times, the guests didn’t seem to mind. Many carried on cheerful conversations and snacked on the catered food.

“The SCAD photo show came out very strong,” said Goran Jovanovic, a fourth-year photography major. “[A] few of the photographers even sold their work. Congratulations to them.”

Toward the end of the exhibition, the jurors awarded Eric Mason, Taylor Lupton and Maria Joyner.  The people’s choice award went to Stephanie Pharr.
