Never one to mince words or hold them back, Emilie Autumn shook up Atlanta’s Masquerade on Oct. 16. She describes her music as “the best cup of English Breakfast, spiked with cyanide and smashed on your antique wallpaper.” Staying true to her character in performance in between sips of tea, she fondly referred to her audience members as “plaque rats” and asked them, “Are you suffering?” Shortly into the set, she halted the show and scolded Masquerade operators for not stopping the music playing downstairs. After Autumn threatened to bring out fire acts, the music downstairs was turned off and she continued with fan favorites like “Liar.” Autumn and her dancers, the Bloody Crumpets, seduced the crowd by kissing audience members and each other as they sang, which all made for an entertaining, theatrical show overall.
