A one-man band may be something that many people think of when they remember classic cartoons. The musician generally has a giant drum on his back, a harmonica, a tambourine and some kind of device to make them all work at the same time, generally his foot — not to mention, a little monkey holding out his paws for tips.

Keith Lynch introduces a new genre of music — his musical project “Unknown Component,” launched in 2002. The Iowa native’s musical craft blends the historical one-man band into something that is cutting edge in technology as well as a gifted performance. To date, the project consists of seven self-released independent albums and two unreleased albums, all of which were written and recorded by Lynch. His new album, titled, “The Infinite Definitive” is scheduled for release this fall.

Lynch is a self-taught musician who plays many instruments, including guitar, piano and drums. He also records and mixes every album in his own independent studio. Unknown Component has been featured in various music magazines including Reax Music Magazine and Big Takeover. An indie sensation, Unknown Component has also received airplay on the radio program Undercurrents. The song “Set To Begin” on the album “From Anywhere But Here” was also featured in the film “The 4th Life.”

The song’s monotone sound and sick beats give Lynch a leg up in a genre that’s rock and roll with harmonizing appeal. The albums that he has produced are a mesh of creative lyrics and artistic merit.

When asked what he thinks of his music, Lynch stated, “I feel like the music speaks for itself really. As for my abilities, I think they measure up to anyone else making music today.” This veritable one-man band is on a quest to revamp the music industry and contribute something more to the likes of performing. The need to produce and perform has now turned Sean “P. Diddy” Combs’ job into the norm for most other artists — selling and producing music from conception to fruition.
