Is beauty really in the eye of the beholder? We say it is. But what if there was a scanner that could confirm you were the sexiest thing walking on two legs? The iTunes app “Fit or Fugly,” designed by Nashy, assesses how attractive you are. According to the Web site, the app uses the Fibonacci golden ratio, and calculates “symmetries via key anchor points on a human face.”

A quick self-assessment from your iPhone can boost your confidence or destroy your day. Your image is then passed on to your peers via Twitter and Facebook, who continue your reign of beauty or continue to make you feel like a Gila monster. While you may think your asymmetrical head is perfect, if your peers say you are Fugly, then by gosh, you might be.

I found this app to be somewhat interesting  — you’ll certainly laugh a little. But I worry this sort of public pageant show might become too mainstream. It’s disturbing that someone can blackball you by uploading your photo and getting the world to say you’re Fugly.

While scanning the Web site, I was amazed that some people were not ugly at all.  Then again, laughing at your flaws or just learning that you have them, can always help in your effort to be a better and more “Fit” you.

“Fit or Fugly” is silly, but it’s a good time.  It’s a must-have for hotties of the world and an instant delete for those who are not.
