“The Connector” will review a few places that students can grab a bite, buy a unique gift or find a new favorite hangout spot, just 10 minutes away.

Located just down the street from SCAD, R. Thomas Deluxe Grill is a haven for anyone looking for a nutritious meal that actually tastes good. Only a five-minute’s drive away, R. Thomas brings its patrons so far back into the ‘60s that the hipster in them may want to convert to a hippie.

The restaurant is full of live, exotic birds and tropical knick-knacks. Potted plants decorate the concrete ground, multicolored fluorescent light bulbs dangle against beaded curtains that line the windows.

R. Thomas Grill is all about satisfying customers’ hunger with natural foods. They boast organic salmon, nine-grain toast, veggie sausage and quinoa, or “the supergrain of the future.” If “scrambled tofu” doesn’t sound appetizing, no worries! R. Thomas offers beef burgers that also happen to be free range, which means the animals are raised in open pastures, instead of small pens.

The French toast, which can be ordered for lunch since R. Thomas serves breakfast all day long, won’t disappoint. Crispy slices of bread are showered with sweet specks of powdered sugar and slices of banana. Most breakfast options come with a side of your choice. Choose from non-starchy, starchy, grains or ocean veggies.

Because R. Thomas is open 24 hours, students can enjoy lunch before an early class or hang out with friends after a late-night movie. R. Thomas Grill is a delicious, healthy restaurant choice, conveniently located near SCAD.
