SCAD Counseling and Student Support Services and SCOPE (Student Council of Peer Educators) held an alcohol screening in association with National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. in the Hub on Oct. 22.

A group of SCOPE students led by Cory Vieltl, a SCAD Counseling representative, ran a booth that offered students the chance to fill out a quick questionnaire that evaluated how healthy the student’s level of alcohol consumption is.

AUDIT or Alcohol Use Disorder Identification Test asked questions pertaining to how often a student drinks, the number of drinks typically consumed in one sitting, how the student handles themselves during and after drinking and if others are concerned with the student’s drinking practices.

This survey is designed to get students rethinking their drinking habits. SCOPE also provided booklets suggesting ways to cut down or quit drinking altogether if the student’s AUDIT score was high. Advice from the booklet included ways to seek social and professional support and provided a drinking tracker card that allows students to set a goal limiting the number of drinks consumed per a set amount of time.

SCOPE is hosting a National Depression Screening Day from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. in the Hub today which follows the same format as the National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness screening.

In November, SCOPE will encourage donations of old or used items and offer doughnuts in relation to World Kindness Day at the DMC and the Hub.
