The Savannah College of Art and Design is revamping the Bees athletics, recreation and intramural departments. Beginning with the 2009-10 season, SCAD will begin offering six intercollegiate sports – men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s golf, and men’s and women’s tennis – at its Atlanta campus. In addition, SCAD-Savannah is placing a renewed emphasis on its intramurals, recreation and fitness departments.
“We are delighted to welcome intercollegiate sports at SCAD-Atlanta,” said Vice President for SCAD-Atlanta P.J. Johnson. “Our students have shown great interest in adding sports in Atlanta, and this initiative is an important step in the maturing of our campus. We are looking forward to expansion of our intramural programs as well.”
The development and fine-tuning of the athletics, fitness, recreation and intramural programs is ongoing in Savannah as well. Just last year, SCAD added women’s lacrosse as an intercollegiate sport and opened a new state-of-the-art fitness center for all students. As part of the current changes, SCAD has made the decision to discontinue the men’s and women’s basketball and cheerleading programs at the end of the 2008-09 season.
