District, the student newspaper of SCAD-Savannah, has been selected as a finalist for an Associated Collegiate Press Pacemaker Award in the newspaper category. “The Pacemaker is often called the ‘Pulitzer Prize of college journalism,’” said John Bennett, SCAD director of student media. “This recognition is particularly meaningful because it indicates that District is among the best college newspapers in the country. I believe this accomplishment is the result of the quality of instruction our students receive in their classes, coupled with the education and experience they gain here in the Student Media Center. We are extremely proud of the students for this major achievement.” Judges evaluated 241 newspapers in three categories and selected 48 entries for 2008 Pacemaker finalist recognition. Finalists were chosen based on excellence in coverage and content, quality of writing and editing, leadership on the opinion page, evidence of in-depth reporting, layout and design, and photography, art and graphics. District won its first Pacemaker Award in 2004 and was named a finalist for an Online Pacemaker in 2007.
