Film and digital media luminary Scott Ross has joined the SCAD team, the college announced in a news release.
The co-founder and former CEO of Digital Domain, Inc. will serve as executive advisor to SCAD’s School of Film, Digital Media and Performing Arts. He will help launch SCAD-Hong Kong, scheduled to open Fall 2010.
Ross has been a notable figure in the entertainment and technology industries for more than 30 years. He is credited with leading companies to more than 15 Academy Award nods and seven Oscars, including one for the visual effects in the 1997 blockbuster film “Titanic.”
“I’m honored and excited to work with SCAD because of the strength and comprehensiveness of its film and digital media programs,” Ross is quoted in the news release.
“There’s not another university in the world making this kind of commitment to prepare talented students for creative careers like this university.”
Ross also will help SCAD launch a Digital Media Center in Atlanta. Set to open in September, the center will be housed in the three-story, 60,000-square-foot facility that once served as the home of WXIA, the Atlanta NBC television affiliate.
In addition, Ross will lead lectures in Atlanta and Savannah and participate workshops at the annual Savannah Film Festival, scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 31- Saturday, Nov. 7.
