This Saturday, September 18, SCAD Atlanta Radio presents their first concert event titled, “Music in the Sky.” This is the first event of its kind at SCAD Atlanta, featuring performances from three DJs, Royal Flush dance group and an evening of fun on the roof of the SCAD Atlanta parking deck.
The concept behind “Music in the Sky” was to create an event “to get students interested in [SCAD Atlanta] Radio, to let them know a little bit of what we’re about, and just to put on a good time for the student body,” said Dylan Fagan, the station’s music director. SCAD Atlanta Radio’s main goal for this year is to get more students active and involved. Another goal is increasing school pride. Dinesh Dave, the radio station’s promotions director, observed, “there’s not a lot of [school pride] here [at SCAD Atlanta], so you want to get the school saying, ‘our school does this, our school does this’ and having that sense of people talking about our school and saying good things about it.” With the station’s goals in mind, the radio staff plans to wow their audience.
Eric Beatty, general manager for SCAD Atlanta Radio, described the upcoming events as “all straight-up awesomeness the whole entire night.” Not only will there be music, dancing and performances with views of the Atlanta skyline, but also the radio station will provide a giant inflatable twister for people to play on, food, giveaways, prizes, games and a couple of surprises.
The radio station hopes that “Music in the Sky” will be the beginning of a series of concert events at SCAD Atlanta. Beatty stated that “at SCAD Atlanta Radio, we really want to push some more concerts, get more bands in — that will be lots of fun.”
“Music in the Sky” will be held on the sky level of the SCAD Atlanta parking deck from 5 p.m. – 10 p.m. on Saturday, September 18. The event is free for SCAD students.
A SCAD Atlanta Radio information booth will be set up at the event for anyone interested in learning more about the station. An interest meeting will be held on Sunday, September 19 at 3 p.m. in Spring House.
