The Savannah College of Art and Design continues its Atlanta-area community education program with the Fall 2010 series of workshops through November 14th. Open to adults and teens 15 years and up, the workshops offer access to SCAD’s facilities and instructors.
Registration for the fall series of workshops is now open to learners at all levels, and most do not require prior experience. Costs range from $75 to $250, depending on materials (with all materials provided at the workshop). Class sizes are small to provide more individual attention. Early registration is encouraged.

Eclectic Interiors

Learn how to style your house on a minimal budget, creating cohesive interiors by choosing the right accessories and cohesive furniture layout. Become savvy in selecting furnishings and reusing existing furniture and accessories following today‘s contemporary trends. Adobe InDesign takes desktop publishing and design to a new level, combining the extraordinary production power, creative freedom and the tight integration with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and Acrobat software. In this intermediate course, participants are introduced to precise selecting with channel masks, experimenting with alternative color, perfecting digital photos, colorizing live art and black-and-white photography, photo restoration and type effects. Collage Basics: Color and Composition

This class provides focus on basic collage techniques, with an emphasis on the use of color and composition. Participants explore the inspiration of modern and contemporary masters, including Picasso and Braques, to develop collage methods and understand how color technique and composition choices can enhance and improve their work. Under Pressure: Accessible Printmaking Techniques for Your Classroom

Through the lens of printmaking, this course will explore alternate means of working with fundamental concepts in design and rendering. The technical processes of printmaking offer unique approaches to color theory, 2-dimensional design and drawing. This course will begin with water-based monotype, continue with pronto plate lithography, and finish with silkscreen. By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to bring these concepts and processes to their own classrooms.
Sewing Skill-Builder

This class explores the more advanced fundamentals of beginner sewing. Participants work with zippers, buttons, seams, darts and more. Reading patterns and choosing the right fabric for the job in the art of clothing construction and reconstruction is explored. Learn the basic rules of sewing (and how to bend them!) while working with patterns to complete a clothing project. Participants are asked to bring their own sewing machine with instructional manual.
Advanced Watercolor Exploration

Participants explore the fascinating world of watercolor and take their painting skills to the next level. This workshop addresses a variety of techniques to help capture subjects ranging from still life to landscape and portrait. Wet-in-wet, dry brush, washes and layers, masking and experimental techniques open the door to mastery of this wonderful medium.

This drawing course is designed for participants with basic drawing skills who wish to further develop their abilities. Mixed Media Photography

In this class participants are led through a series of mixed media and alternative photo techniques, such as Xerox transfers, photo collage, encaustics, pinhole photography and more. This do-it-yourself course empowers the artist to create thought-provoking imagery without the use of high-tech or expensive photo equipment. By the end of this four-week course, participants will be familiar with a variety of techniques and equipped to further their own personal vision.
Sketch Your Way

This class is perfect for beginners who want to improve sketching skills to add to an art portfolio. It covers drawing techniques and “how to” for sketching indoor and outdoor scenes, the human figure, and other subjects of everyday life. Practice exercises each week help participants develop fundamental skills by sketching basic forms using gesture, contour, and value, with pen, pencil and charcoal.
WORKSHOP: Abstract Painting with Mixed Media
