This class provides focus on basic collage techniques, with an emphasis on the use of color and composition. Through the lens of printmaking, this course will explore alternate means of working with fundamental concepts in design and rendering. The technical processes of printmaking offer unique approaches to color theory, 2-dimensional design and drawing. This course will begin with water-based monotype, continue with pronto plate lithography, and finish with silkscreen. By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to bring these concepts and processes to their own classrooms.

This class explores the more advanced fundamentals of beginner sewing. Participants work with zippers, buttons, seams, darts and more. Reading patterns and choosing the right fabric for the job in the art of clothing construction and reconstruction is explored. Learn the basic rules of sewing (and how to bend them!) while working with patterns to complete a clothing project. Participants are asked to bring their own sewing machine with instructional manual.

Participants explore the fascinating world of watercolor and take their painting skills to the next level. In this class participants are led through a series of mixed media and alternative photo techniques, such as Xerox transfers, photo collage, encaustics, pinhole photography and more. This do-it-yourself course empowers the artist to create thought-provoking imagery without the use of high-tech or expensive photo equipment. By the end of this four-week course, participants will be familiar with a variety of techniques and equipped to further their own personal vision.

This class is perfect for beginners who want to improve sketching skills to add to an art portfolio. It covers drawing techniques and “how to” for sketching indoor and outdoor scenes, the human figure, and other subjects of everyday life. Practice exercises each week help participants develop fundamental skills by sketching basic forms using gesture, contour, and value, with pen, pencil and charcoal.
