The Savannah College of Art and Design hosted the Ryan Cameron Foundation’s (RCF) Holiday Charity Event, Sunday, Dec. 12. Thirteen deserving families gathered at SCAD Atlanta for a holiday event planned entirely for them and were surprised when NBA champion and Atlanta Hawk player, Josh Powell, showed up to volunteer. In partnership with Porsche Cars North America, Inc., the festivities included gift giving, family-friendly activities and refreshments for all ages.
As hosts of this special event, SCAD faculty and staff shared their time, creativity and talent with the families. The afternoon featured a variety of interactive stations as well as a special appearance by the university mascot, Art the Bee. The gaming area included a giant-sized Connect Four game, miniature golf, pool tables and ping-pong, along with a Wii and Xbox game console.
SCAD photography professor Forest McMullin took family portraits while SCAD writing professors Darby Sanders and Chris Bundy read holiday classics in the reading corner. SCAD Atlanta alumnus Omar Richardson provided the music—a medley of favorite and familiar holiday tunes.
During its 3rd Annual Youth Health Fair in October, the Ryan Cameron Foundation selected the ten families who would most benefit from its holiday charity program. Porsche employees supported this effort by purchasing family members gifts from their wish lists. The gifts were presented at the holiday party.
Both SCAD and the Ryan Cameron Foundation are dedicated to serving the local community and providing life-inspiring programs to youth, especially during the holiday season.
