Founded in 1987, The NAMES Project Foundation manages The AIDS Memorial Quilt. The NAMES Project receives panels from around the world made by people who want to honor their loved ones who have died from AIDS. The panels are sewn into quilts and the quilts are sent out across the country for temporary display to educate, memorialize and inspire. Osayi Endolyn, MFA writing student, visited the foundation with her Writing For New Media class. She says, “it’s so moving to hear the passion in how the family and friends want their loved ones remembered.” The NAMES Project’s mission is to preserve, care for and use The AIDS Memorial Quilt to foster healing, advance social justice and inspire action.
