The Secret (Art) History of Games by John Sharp
Thursday, Feb. 17, 8 p.m.
Digital Media Center, auditorium
What connects Renaissance parlor games, 18th century French swing sets, Go, Spacewar!, pinball, Chess and Wolfenstein 3D? This session looks at the often obscure connections and relationships between art and games as forms of expression and experience, and the ways the two reflect something substantial about their time and place. Games were sometimes praised, and were sometimes despised, but in all cases, a common thread is the degree to which the games were woven into the culture.
