They say that April showers bring May flowers, but we hear that the tulips are already blooming over at the Atlanta Botanical Garden. If you’re looking for ways to put away the winter blues and jump in to spring, Atlanta has a wealth of options. Here is our bucket list of top ten must-dos:
1. Look up a nearby local farm and go strawberry picking. Eat them all yourself.
2. Have a Grown-Up Easter Egg Hunt, with novelty Easter eggs. (Stuff them with jokes, fake mustaches, money, poker chips, cocktail rings, finger puppets, etc.).
3. Stop by Atlanta Contemporary Art Center on Thursdays and check out Portland-based artist Jessica Jackson Hutchins’ exhibition, “The Important Thing About A Chair,” or interdisciplinary artist John Heward’s minimalist paintings, for free.
4. Cruise in to the Starlight Six for an old-fashioned movie experience while it’s still cool enough to forgo A/C.
5. Catch one of the Horizon Theater’s upcoming productions (a time-traveling comedy or tony-award-winning musical) on the first Sunday night performance and Pay What You Can. Or, pay $10 for the Thursday night preview performance.
6. Spend an afternoon at the Atlanta Botanical Garden and behold the explosion of color from almost 200,000 blooming tulips.
7. Rent a canoe and paddle around the Chattahoochee River for a few hours.
8. Pack a picnic and celebrate the 75th Annual Atlanta Dogwood Festival in Piedmont Park, Apr. 15-17.
9. Support local artists at the 23rd Annual Decatur Arts Festival’s Artist Market in downtown Decatur, over Memorial Day Weekend.
10. Stop by the Hub from 12–3 p.m. on Thursday, Apr. 7, for Student Media Day and find out how you can contribute to “The Connector” and share your spring adventures.
