SCAD Atlanta men’s tennis team finished the season with a pivotal win. At the NAIA Qualyfying tournament held at the Life Time Atlanta Tennis Facility (former Racquet Club of the South), the Bees defeated the Martin Methodist College Redhawks that were ranked 19th in the nation.
SCAD grabbed an early 2-0 lead when Mikaiah Vea and Julian Guzman of the Bees defeated Cristian Arias and Alejandro Yanes 8-6. Jack Anton and Richard Brei finished the Redhawks with an 8-6 win over Fabio Santos and Ramiro Vargas.
“Pulling off this upset of a top 20 program was obviously a highlight for our season,” Coach Iftner said,
Coach Iftner continued, “It has been challenging to take the court with only five men for the bulk of our season and this win over Martin Methodist was a testament to how hard our guys compete. We had battled two top 25 teams a few weeks ago in Florida and were so close taking a 6-3 loss to #23 Webber International followed by a 5-4 loss to #17 Warner. This was exciting to see our guys’ resilience and determination rewarded in the final tournament of our season by earning such a big win.”
SCAD Atlanta won the match 5-2.
