Last Wednesday 60,000 runners and walkers flooded Peachtree Street under clear skies in the world’s largest 10K event. Many showed their patriotism by doing everything from carrying American flags the entire time to running in red, white and blue costumes (one such runner wore a Captain America costume, complete with a shield strapped to his arm).
The goal was, of course, to attain the prized t-shirt awarded after the finish line which, as the Peachtree Road Race website points out, is exclusively available to people who complete the race. With good reason, one would say: the privilege of wearing the shirt it earned through blood, sweat, tears and a grueling trek up the famous “Cardiac Hill” at the 6000 meter mark. In addition to the runners there were the competitors in the wheelchair division which requires approximately 25,000 revolutions to complete.
Congratulations to everyone who went the distance.
