While people fully recognize the importance of fruits and vegetables to eating healthy, the question then becomes: why buy from Georgia farmers? What difference does that make?
According to Georgia Organics, if households in Georgia spent just $10 each week on products grown locally, it would translate into $1.9 billion put back in the state economy. Based on the U.S. Census Bureau assessment, the average household spends just under $12 per week on fruits and vegetables. Over the course of the next few weeks, we’ll look at some of the options available where you can spend that money on produce grown right here in the state.

Set up in the parking lot of the Cathedral of St. Philip convenient to both Buckhead and Midtown residents, this farmers market brings in people of all ages. Opening at 8:30 am, visitors found not only produce grown in Georgia but also fresh crepes, breads and pastries and even a cooking demonstration from an area chef sponsored by Whole Foods Market.
