The culture of boutiques and eateries in Virginia-Highlands would be incomplete without Harry & Sons. The entrance of this quaint sushi and Thai cuisine shop holds true to the style of this popular neighborhood of Atlanta — casual, fun and full of potential for an amazing night.

Curry and other robust aromas fill the air upon entering. This inviting atmosphere caters toward tables for two or those on double dates, but a second dining area could accommodate larger parties.

Asahi Super Dry, a pale lager brewed in Japan circa 1987, promises a refreshing accompaniment to a wide variety of flavors and does not disappoint. Asahi pours golden in color and emanates a citrus scent. The nose-end has a sharper flavor than the silky finish and the dryness serves as a light-flavored, palate-cleansing accompaniment to the bolder flavors of Thai dishes and sushi.

The chicken curry, a popular dish at Harry & Sons for $11, is presented on a dish that seems to hardly contain the diced and spiced chicken, potatoes and cream-based saucy curry goodness. Garnished with purple cabbage and strings of carrots, this dish could be easily shared between two people. The chicken curry is mildly spiced and served with a mountain of steamed rice.

The also popular Combo 1 (pictured above)  features a roll of Super Crunch and Tokyo Roll, 14 pieces of sushi for a total of $15. The Super Crunch is tempura, masago, Japanese sauce and smoked salmon. Tempura is a light Japanese batter that creates the crunch in the middle of this roll, wrapped with seaweed paper, rice, topped with the smoked salmon and garnished with sesame seeds. The Super Crunch is the highlight of Combo 1 because of the substantial size and varying textures. The Tokyo Roll consists of snow crab, avocado and masago—this roll is not as large or flavorful as the Super Crunch individually but rounds out this combo sufficiently.

The overall taste rates at a solid 9 for Harry & Sons. The service is spectacular, the atmosphere is cozy and the price is modest. The potential for a better night is only found in another bottle of Asahi Super Dry.

Harry & Sons is located at 820 North Highland and is open for lunch and dinner.
