The Connector asked SCAD students what they are doing to stay fit and here’s what they had to say:
He Said:
Jimmie Jackson, first-year animation student says,
“I go to the gym because I feel like it’s needed with all this work I’m putting into my assignments. I need that outlet to help relieve stress. I go to the gym every day that it’s open. Any time I am on campus working on an assignment, I make sure I head to the gym. It keeps me focused.
I spend a lot of time sitting and drawing so I have to make time to be active. It’s much easier to focus on my schoolwork after a workout. The gym is always open during the class day so its pretty convenient with my schedule.”
She Said:
Nicole Geisler, first-year M.F.A. interactive design and game development student says,
“My new year’s resolution was to stay in shape and quit smoking cigarettes. So far, I’ve been doing a good job of sticking to it. Usually, I work out before I go to sleep and first thing in the morning when I wake up. I do sit-ups, push-ups and general exercises to keep myself fit. It’s a real challenge to have any other regimen because I really don’t have time to exercise between work and class.
My favorite exercise is running. When it is cold, like now, I try to get to a gym near where I live, and I run there. But again, that also depends on whether or not I have the time get there. If I don’t get to the gym, I just stick to the general routine I do at night or in the mornings. Overall, I’m interested in keeping tone and energetic.
I think fitness is pretty important and I encourage all students to exercise. Without it, you just start to lag. You end up not doing well in your studies and feel blah in general.”
