Named after the owner’s son, The Albert is decorated with images of different “Alberts” throughout the centuries. For example, framed portraits of Albert Einstein and Al “Albert” Pacino are hung on exposed brick walls. Wrought iron lion heads are the backsplash of the bar. The limited booths are friendly to families and children during the day but nearing evening time the bar scene is active and open until 2 a.m. nightly. Ping pong tournaments are held in second dining room every Wednesday.
Classic bar appetizers such as wings, boiled peanuts, and The Albert’s award-winning chomp and stomp chili, range from $5 to $8. Pork tacos, served in triplets with jalapeno slaw, don’t skimp on the spice and may be too addicting to share. Fresh mozzarella is the star of the frequently ordered caprese salad; the remaining tomato and basil ingredients need salt and pepper to combat blandness despite the reduced balsamic dressing.
The average cost of a specialty entree is $10. Some of the other entrees include cheesesteaks, burgers, wraps and ribs. Spicy habanero aioli kicks up the flavor and dresses the habanero shrimp wrap well, and disguises the pre-frozen shrimp with zing. Garlic, bacon and butter season the green beans and are an excellent side to most of the specialty entrees.
The Albert, mostly a whiskey and beer bar, serves up well-mixed cocktails like the big apple, which offers the bitterness of an old fashioned but the sweetness of orange liqueur. Other cocktails like the Irishman’s coffee is served with Werther’s Original candy bits providing an intoxicatingly delicious dessert. Great for a loud night with friends, The Albert is a low-profile place to find a decently priced drink and food without the prices of a fine dining establishment.
