On Saturday, April 12 Executive Producer Jeff Garlin will debut “Finding Vivian Maier” at the Lefont Sandy Springs Theater in Atlanta. There will be two screenings beginning at 1:45 p.m. and again at 3:40 p.m.
This new documentary uncovers the fascinating story of how the late Vivian Maier quickly becomes internationally known as one of the most accomplished and insightful street photographers of the 20th century. Yet she showed her images to no one. So, how did this mysterious nanny’s imagery end up in galleries all around the world, after her death in 2009?
Maier’s powerful portraits went undiscovered until local historian John Maloof acquired an old box of photo negatives at an estate auction in 2007. After scanning some of the negatives, Maloof realized he had found something special and rare. He then started his search for the person behind the photographs. What he discovered is one of the most intriguing stories in recent years.
There will be a question and answer session with Mr. Garlin following the 1:45 p.m. screening. He will also provide the introduction for the 3:40 p.m. show.
Lefont Sandy Springs Theater is located at 5920 Roswell Rd, Sandy Springs 30328.
