The human figure is one of the most difficult subjects to tackle in visual art. Capturing it with precision can be a tremendous challenge. That’s where SCAD Atlanta’s Open Model Sessions come in, offering hardworking students the opportunity to refine their sketching skills through live studies of the human form.
Open Model Sessions are free and open to SCAD undergraduate and graduate students of all majors. The sessions are held on SCAD Atlanta’s main campus, in Room 436C, just down the hall from Gallery See. They run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Fridays from March 27 to May 22. There are numerous pose selections offered, including long, medium and gesture, which vary in duration.
“Practice makes perfect” is a well-worn phrase for a reason, and Open Model Sessions are a chance to put those words into action — to practice and perfect the art of drawing people. The opportunity to sketch from live models is valuable whether you are working on an assignment or just striving to enhance your artistic abilities.
Famed American poet Walt Whitman once wrote that, “If any thing is sacred the human body is sacred.” Open Model Sessions are an excellent way for SCAD Atlanta’s dedicated student artists to reflect Whitman’s resonant sentiment while honing their skills and enriching their academic experiences.
