Finding a place to get one’s hair styled on a college budget is a difficult feat. Whether it’s just getting a simple blowout, haircut or full-on hair color and highlights, Atlanta is home to a few salons that will work with a student’s budget.
Drybar
Drybar is one of my favorite blowout salons. They specialize in blowouts for $40. Stylists will wash, dry and style clients’ hair in one of their signature styles. Drybar will also style clients’ hair in an up-do for an additional $40. In response to the recent beauty craze over braiding in the fashion world, Drybar added funky braids to their list of add-on services. For $10 you can get a fishtail, waterfall, accent or full braid on top of your blowout. Drybar uses their own line of products for services. This salon is located at 102 West Paces Ferry Road NW, Atlanta, Ga.
Aveda
The Aveda Institute may be one of the most familiar salons for Atlanta students since it’s right in the same plaza as Sam Flax. This beauty school doubles as a full service salon to anyone willing to allow cosmetology students to do their hair. These students are guided by master cosmetologists while doing the client’s hair to ensure no mishaps. Clients can also requests master students that are usually toward the end of their program and have more experience styling hair without mistakes. A simple wash and blowout is $12 for a regular student and $18 for a master student. A blow dry service with flat iron work is $50 with a regular student and $60 with a master student. The salon also does hair coloring, perms, relaxers as well as esthetician and spa services by appointments. Paul Mitchell
The Paul Mitchell School is another cosmetology school that offers discount hair services for clients that don’t mind students styling their hair. A simple cut and blow dry with heat styling is $28 for their first level stylists and $38 for the second level stylists. It may not be as close in proximity as the Aveda Institute, but it still is worth checking out. The Paul Mitchell School is located at 887 West Marietta, Suite A, Atlanta, Ga.
Boxx Beauty Bar
The Boxx Beauty Bar is a salon that performs hair, makeup, massage, esthetician and waxing services. Their hair services range from a $35 wash and blow dry service to $65 for up-dos. Boxx Beauty Bar also does chemical styling such as relaxers, perms and Keratin treatments as well as hair coloring, highlights, extensions and deep conditioning. The salon is located at 1831 Peachtree St NE, Atlanta, Ga.
Heat Lounge
The Heat Lounge is a blow dry bar located in Lenox Mall that specializing in $40 blowouts. The salon also does makeup services, hair extensions and facial waxing. The salon uses Moroccanoil products for their hair services and Mica Beauty for their makeup services. The Heat Lounge is located at 3393 Peachtree Road NE, Unit #3142A, Atlanta, Ga., next to “Forever 21” on the main level.
