Could you imagine going to a career fair where you don’t have to carry a heavy portfolio bag or laptop for hours? Could you imagine making an impact on potential employers beyond a well-designed résumé? SCAD’s innovative program Out-to-Launch puts a welcome spin on the concept of a career fair where employers are the ones lining up to see you.
This year’s program consisted of SCAD’s best and brightest students from each major. They designed their own booths in order to present their work in the best and most unique way possible. And though many of the majors presented their work in similar formats, such as motion media students using TVs and game designers offering demos, each student found a way to make such formats their own. From Ginger Tontaveetong’s innovative means of showing her animated films through tablets and paper to writer Brittany Joyce’s cozy setup, reminiscent of a living room, each participant put together these booths in ways that best represented them as artists.
There was also a noticeable air of confidence during the event. Many of the participants felt at ease and were looking forward to meeting employers. As animation student Justice Obiaya said,
“It’s all about networking. People know everybody.”
With their heavy portfolio bags now taking the forms of decorated booths, these students have ensured that employers will not be forgetting their names any time soon.
