This weekend was all about SCAD fashion. From queen of punk Vivienne Westwood to the annual fashion show, SCAD’s Museum of Art got a whole lot chicer.

On May 14th fashion and accessory students got to show off their designs during the Design Static Show. Similar to the SCAD Seen Gala, students were assigned different platforms in the museum to set up and showcase their work.

The next day, Dame Vivienne Westwood was awarded the André Leon Talley Lifetime Achievement Award. Westwood is a British designer largely known for bringing punk fashion to mainstream attention. Some of her most iconic designs include Pharrell’s infamous hat from the 2014 Grammy’s and Carrie Bradshaw’s wedding dress in the Sex and the City movie.

After the award ceremony, Westwood sat down with André Leon Talley, Véronique Hyland, fashion news editor for New York magazine’s “The Cut”, and her husband, Andreas Kronthaler for a talk. Westwood gave lots of wonderful advice, but the one that stood out especially was, “You will soon find out if you are able to become a designer if you manage to get near to copying something. That is how you discover everything.”

On May 16th, the event wrapped up with the fashion show; an event that feature 37 student designers. SCAD had every detail perfected, even the music choice for the show which oddly fit in time with the designs coming out. Every beat and mix embodied the avant-garde clothes and added to the energy of the show. Afterwards, the guests gathered in the courtyard where the designers posed with their favorite designs for pictures. Marc Jacobs, Christian Siriano, J Alexander, Andre Leon Talley, Vivienne Westwood and Andrew Bevan were some industry favorites that made an appearance at the show. If you’d like to see the show you can check it out here on SCAD’s website.
It’s easy to say, whenever SCAD throws a party it’s always the talk of the town. Congratulations go out to the designers for their hard work and future endeavors.
