2015 might be the biggest year yet for SCAD. In accordance with the 10th anniversary of the Atlanta location, SCAD is celebrating by adding the finishing touches to the DMC, remodeling the SCAD Atlanta main building, creating SCAD FASH and adding five new majors to the overall program.
This year, there are new majors at the Savannah and Atlanta campuses in the bachelors and masters programs. If you don’t feel at home in your field, check out some of these recent additions to the curriculum and you could discover your new passion.
The film and television major has expanded its bachelor’s program from Savannah to Atlanta. The master’s film and television program was established a few years ago and last year SCAD reconfigured 14th Street Playhouse into SCAD Show to accommodate more film and television classes. For those of you who are enamored with cinema and don’t feel like trekking to Savannah to study it, SCAD Atlanta can now hook you up with top facilities and professors to train you in the city that is now known as the third-largest filmmaking hub in the country. Also, sound design is now a minor at SCAD Atlanta.
The School of Communication Arts has added a bachelor’s program in branded entertainment that is exclusively offered at SCAD Atlanta. Branded entertainment teaches students how particular brands are perceived by the public and which marketing techniques are used to make these brands memorable. Students are then taught how to apply branded content to traditional and new media like film, video games and mobile apps. This program can be considered a fun challenge for all advertising minds to undertake.
Business design and arts leadership is an enhanced arts administration master’s program at both the Savannah and Atlanta campuses. This program mixes business principles with design methods to give students the tools they need to lead in arts management. SCAD’s mission of using the arts to provide practical, sustaining careers is definitely illustrated here as students will wield creative thinking strategies to thrive in the business world.
Service design is another example of a pragmatic career shaped by art resources and training. This bachelor and master’s program is only offered in Savannah but is proven to accommodate the changing climate in product and service production. Service designers are responsible for evaluating and improving user experiences of products and services for the benefit of the company that produces them. They use research, design and strategy skills to uncover the strengths and weaknesses of product or service and create valid solutions. If you seek to make a difference in something that is sold frequently, then this is the major for you.
Finally, user experience (UX) design is a new program at the Savannah campus that provides endless opportunities in the digital field. UX students are similar to service design students except they focus on bettering a good or service through technological approaches. These students act as researchers, designers and programmers to reimagine anything from mobile phones to car interiors.
With these program additions, SCAD seeks to establish and expand more creative careers that will lead their college graduates on the road to a successful and debt-free life.
