Jim Henson’s 80th Birthday Celebration

Saturday, Sept. 24

Center for Puppetry Arts

Festivities will include a special guided tour of the Jim Henson Collection, Henson-focused story time, puppet building, Henson gallery carts with an informal Q&A with Center conservators and will culminate with special film screenings of Jim Henson’s The Storyteller and Farscape at 8 p.m. All activities will take place in and around the Jim Henson Collection in the newly expanded Worlds of Puppetry Museum at the Center, which also includes a Global Collection.

The 19th annual, free one-day extravaganza that showcases the hottest in-town neighborhood in Atlanta. East Atlanta is the best place to eat, drink, shop and play! Live art, live local music, adult game area featuring contests of strength, stamina and beard growth, artists market, the famous Strut parade, free kids village, community booths, food and beverages. The Strut is a nonprofit organization that plans, organizes and staffs the festival solely by volunteers to show off the place where they love to live.

Jill Frank is a visual artist working primarily in photography. She received her BA in Photography from Bard College and her MFA in Studio Art from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Her work has shown nationally and internationally, and selected solo exhibitions include Contemporary Art Workshop, Chicago; Golden Gallery, Chicago; and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago. Frank relocated to Atlanta in 2011 to teach at Georgia State University. Frank’s work deals with the negotiation and indeterminacy of dominant social and cultural narratives. Her current work investigates American “rites of passage,” and how they inform cultural status symbols and identity formation.
