With school nearly over, we’re getting excited for all the fun series of events the summer will bring. One of the most overlooked art events in Atlanta are poetry slam and open-mic events. These inspiring events contain some of the city’s most passionate artists who give powerful performances that stick with the audience. Whether you’re a newbie to all this or a poetry lover who wants to finally see the art form get some recognition, this list of upcoming poetry and open-mic events will have something for everyone.

Apache Cafe presents Slam Atl Open Mic

Come out to the Apache Cafe to see their monthly featured artist take the stage. June’s feature is Joan ‘Lyric’ Leslie. Her work is a journey through healing and self love, primarily to her fellow black women. Using a combination of comedy, poetry and storytelling, her narrative skills bring a fresh new face to the poetry scene.

Apache Cafe continues to dominate the poetry scene with this rich celebration of traditions, invention, discovery and revelation. Musical artists will get the chance to come up on stage and bless it in their own way, whether that be a spoken word, song, poem or other performance. College students with their school ID get in for reduced price.
