SCAD students have a plethora of information at their feet— here’s how to get to it.

The ACA library of SCAD Atlanta is tucked away on the fourth floor of the 1660 Peachtree St. building, a sanctuary for quiet creatives. Stocked with a variety of resources ranging from books and periodicals to magazines and DVDs, students have access to an incredible amount of information at the tips of their fingers.

Individual study spaces are equipped with a computer — you have a choice between Windows, Wacom or Mac, based on your needs — and are partitioned off to provide partial privacy. More collaborative work can be done in private rooms, or in the large open-space tables scattered around the space. Other practical amenities such as printers, scanners, copiers and stack cutters are also available here. Catherine Manci, research and instruction librarian, encourages students to visit the library, saying that “It’s OK to feel uncomfortable in unfamiliar situations, but the payoff of overcoming that is always worth it.”

Resources available at the library:

Books

Undergraduates have the opportunity to borrow up to 15 books at a time for a duration of two weeks, while graduate students can borrow 20 books for up to 30 days.

Wacom Cintiq pens

Cintiq pens, a creative tool that mimics the stylus of Wacom tablets, are available to borrow for a maximum of two hours.

Course reserved text books

Students can check out select texts that have been set aside by professors to engage with topics related to their field of study for up to two hours.

DVDs

The library’s DVD collection has a wide selection that includes movies, cartoons, television series and documentaries, all available to borrow for four days. In the age of streaming applications, SCAD students are offered the traditional experience of figuring out a CD.

DVD players

Want to watch those DVDs you just borrowed, but the last CD reader you saw was in an antique store? Do not fear, the library allows you to lease a DVD player for 24 hours.

Light box

An essential tool for any artist, the library lends out portable light boxes for a maximum of two hours to allow students to complete projects.

Study rooms

Certain rooms in the library are specifically reserved for study groups and collaborative work; simply ask a librarian for the key and you’ll have two hours of solitude.
