Fiona Kelly is a second-year fashion student from Miami who recreates designers’ silhouettes, movements and surfaces through illustration. Kelly draws her inspiration from all aspects of the environment around her, from high couture collections to celebrities and even SCAD FASH Museum of Fashion + Film exhibitions.
For this particular piece, Kelly goes in-depth about seeing the exhibit and why this dress in particular drew her attention: “The Pierre Cardin illustration was the very first SCAD fashion exhibit I ever went to. And everything was so gorgeous but when I came upon the orange dress, I’ve just never seen anything like it. The shape was just so interesting and the tent part was so unconventional. I love designs that are otherworldly and have a lot of unique structure and volume, honestly painting glittery things is very fun. So I just sat on the floor and sketched it and added the base colors, and worked in the details later.”
