Prompted by a need for further initiative for mental health awareness and support, SCAD introduced BeeWell to promote wellness and mental healthcare at SCAD.

This fall quarter we welcomed the new cross-communicative and information program in collaboration with CS3 programs. The program has the goal of extending health initiatives to SCAD students and does so through informative programs and a series of classes. The program’s events seek to reduce stress levels in students as they undergo academic pressure and expectations.

To promote this healthy lifestyle, CS3 has partnered with SCADfit to host pop-up yoga events and other functions geared towards reducing stress and anxiety levels.

In addition to impacting CS3’s reputation around campus, the Bee Well initiative also influences its online presence. CS3’s website has taken on a new design that includes informative links on mental health screenings and helpful information on managing stress.

By including anonymous online surveys on their website, CS3 is able to gauge information on the mental health of students and use this data to organize assessments.

Bria Noel, a second-year film and television student, spoke of her experience at the fitness center, describing the transformative journey that took place since she’d started coming to work out. “Just get yourself to the gym, just come,” she said.

By centering the mind’s focus on the body, we are able to establish connections between the two entities. This practice can bring the mind and body together to become more mindful of surroundings and thoughts. In classes, techniques on how to practice the establishment of a mind and body connection will be taught so that students can use them in their lives. No prior experience is necessary to attend sessions.

This contemporary facility includes all standard gym equipment along with updated studio space for group classes and is often underutilized. SCADfit Atlanta offers a plethora of classes that include mindfulness, fencing, yoga, cardio, body sculpting, unwinding and more.

Located on the first floor of SCAD Atlanta’s main campus, SCADfit serves as an in-between class activity as well as a place for elongated power workouts.
