Experience Anime Weekend Atlanta, beginning Thursday, Oct. 31 running until Sunday, Nov. 3. This 4-day festival is an annual event held at the Cobb Galleria and the Renaissance Waverly Hotel and celebrates Japanese anime (animation), manga (comics) and cosplay (costume play).
After speaking with SCAD students about the event, most were pretty excited and were going as their favorite character from their favorite anime shows.
Paige Springer, a second-year interactive design and game development student, stated that she’s “looking forward to the artist alley the most, since it’s the main thing [she goes] to any convention to support the artists.” Springer added that she’s “going in a cosplay as either Kaede Akamatsu or Kazulchi Souda from the anime, ‘Danganronpa.'”
“I’m super excited to see my convention friends because they are people I’ve known for a long time and they all live in different places, so these conventions are usually the only time we get to see each other,” Parker Atkinson, a second-year sculpture student said.
She added that she always dresses up for cons, and that she’s attending the event on Saturday as Inouske from the anime “Demon Slayer” and on Sunday she’ll be Spiderman from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
