The SCAD study abroad program offers students a unique opportunity to study and experience life at international locations: Lacoste and/or Hong Kong. From this, they are able to gain an appreciation and a more global perspective for art and design, which enhances and improves the overall SCAD student experience.
Locations
Lacoste, France: The campus buildings are located in Provence, France and encompass residence halls, two dining halls and a preserved medieval village including a meticulously restored 11th-century farmhouse. SCAD Lacoste is a residency program with housing accommodations ranging in occupancy and located in the upper village and at the La Maison Basse complex.
Hong Kong: The campus is located in the heart of Asia. The city shows off its culturally diverse landscape which is heavily influenced by its Chinese and European past. Students enjoy apartment-style living quarters at Hong Kong Gold Coast Residences, and classes are held in the historic North Kowloon Magistracy Building. Here, SCAD offers the area’s largest concentration of art and design degree programs in the Sham Shui Po district.
Anami Hayes, a third-year animation student chose to attend the Hong Kong campus. He stated that he enjoyed “experiencing a whole new culture and the beautiful landscapes.” If he had to give any advice to interested SCAD students, it would be to “stay in groups and try to learn a new recipe by cooking with [all sorts of] different ingredients.”
“My favorite thing to do at the Hong Kong location is to go to the mall and eat sushi with my friends,” Cameron Gordon, another third-year animation student stated, who is currently at the campus. “For advice, I’d say to learn some Cantonese, always keep cash, especially 10’s for the smaller buses or when buying street snacks and food in general,” Gordon continued.
