The last month in the quarter could not have started off any better if you attended SCAD Atlanta’s Open Studio Night last weekend. The energy surged throughout the 5th floor of the C building at SCAD, as more and more people arrived to view and purchase artwork created by SCAD students, faculty and alumni.
Each piece was surrounded by people observing and appreciating what was in front of them, while conversing with one another. Adding to this, the music was quite fitting for the event, making it even more enjoyable to take everything in.
There were various types of art being showcased, from Photography, Illustration and Painting, to Sculpture and Printmaking – boasting of SCAD’s ability to produce only the highest quality of work in all different forms.
After speaking to a couple students that attended the event, they all had positive feedback, buzzing with excitement as many of their friends were the creators of some of the pieces displayed proudly on the walls.
“It’s definitely pretty cool seeing my classmates’ artwork on the walls. It feels so professional even though we’re all still in school”, Bobby Burton, a second-year film and television student stated.
Agreeing with Burton, Youwon Shin, a second-year illustration student, added that “two or three of my friends have submitted their work for the event, and I’m just so proud of them – I want to encourage them – I want to support them.”
There were also live sessions taking place throughout the event. It was quite captivating to watch the artists’ process on how they go about making their creations.
If you missed this two-day event, as a student, you can go to the C building on the 5th floor to get an extra chance to admire the remaining artwork that’s left up for you to see, during the rest of the quarter.
