Kat Ash is a graduate student from Atlanta who is part of the illustration program. She recently started to use Instagram as an outlet to showcase her dress illustrations, specifically wedding dresses.
I feel that my work resorts to dark, creepy or eeriness but there is still this ballerina that danced for 14 years in there that loves elegance and grace, that is also why these illustrations have ballet influence.
I love fashion that makes a statement because I grew up with a fashionable mom. When I was younger and wasn’t outside, I was drawing little, tiny outfits and arranged them in what could be cool dress idea, all at age 9. I also have to thank Professor Lovell who assigns sketchbook practice during our classes with him. If it hand’t been for him and telling us to keep drawing what we don’t normally do or haven’t done in a while, I probably wouldn’t have revisited dresses in fear of stupid failure.
Lovell pushes me so much to just do it. Once, when one person saw my quick sketches, they commissioned me and then it started to happen more and more! I love bringing life to my art, especially if it’s going to mean something to someone and be a special memory too!
“This dress was fun to work on, partially because I love some awesome dress sleeves, but also because her accent color was black.”
