Now on view at SCAD FASH: ‘Fashioning Art from Paper’
SCAD FASH Museum of Fashion + Film proudly presents the Belgian artist Isabelle de Borchgrave’s “Fashioning Art from Paper” — an exhibition that showcases over 500 years of fashion and costumes made of remarkable paper sculptures.
Her proficiency at working with paper and paint has allowed her to replicate several European styles, some even dating back to the 1400s.
De Borchgrave was inspired by the garments of many names well known throughout European history, from the Medici family — who once ruled Florence, Italy during the Renaissance period — to making her own costume interpretations of the Ballets Russes. She has even incorporated designs in her Kaftan series from Central Asia. Her artwork has also been influenced by 20th century couturiers such as Charles Frederick Worth and Paul Poiret — which can all be seen at the exhibition at the SCAD FASH museum.
