Alexandre Philippe on horror movies at SCADshow: Photo gallery

I had the privilege of attending SCADshow on Jan. 8 to see the award-winning filmmaker Alexandre Philippe present on the horror film genre. He explored the history of horror, the importance of the genre and why monsters make excellent metaphors.
He shared that we tend to associate horror with extremely heightened emotions such as fear, shock, and disgust, along with discussions about the importance of making a connection with the audience.
Philippe went on to speak about different types of horrors such as zombie movies, supernatural films, monster stories, and many more.
He also gave students great insight into some famous horrors, which he had studied intensely, like “Psycho”, “Vertigo”, “The Exorcist”, “Alien”, “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre”, “The Blair Witch Project”, and many more.
Later on, he engaged with the students in a Q&A session where he gave inspiring advice to many prospective horror filmmakers, animators and even video game designers.
