What led you to choose fashion as your career?
I remember in high school I used to be conflicted to choose between psychology and fashion. I chose fashion because it’s just something I’ve always wanted to do. When I was younger, I would love to change outfits multiple times a day. It’s something that’s not always the one-path-sorta career and as most fashion designers are self-employed, that was something that attracted me to this field.
What would you say are the difficult aspects of your industry?
The difficult aspects of the industry are definitely the long hours of work, the perception of being wasteful and the huge personalities of the people in the industry as a cause of unnecessary drama.
What’s your favorite part of completing a project?
I love the execution process of any project, the transition from designing on paper to fabric is surreal. I have the ability to zoom in and zone out and let things happen by themselves.
What part of your identity do your clothes reflect?
I think my clothes reflect how unique I am; I love vintage clothing but I also love futuristic design. I love experimenting with colors. The way I dress is not the regular trendy style that people are used to.
What sort of advice would you give to incoming students?
Take advantage of school, and apply it in your real life. Don’t be dependent on school, absorb the skills and try to do your own little projects.
