I wanted to take portraits for Black History Month. It’s been a project I’ve been wanting to do for years. I was inspired by the notion that even though we as individuals are different, we are one and the same.
I aimed to highlight the sense of unity in the black community. Nowadays there’s so much division in the community and a lot of people tearing each other apart, but we are stronger together. I wanted to tie in a clearer representation of unity.
Overall, I like the way this series came out because it shows that black is beautiful and appears in different tones and sizes.
