In between the social distancing, taking care of ourselves and trying to find things to do around the house, here’s a quick recap of news highlights about the fashion industry.
Met Gala
The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s biggest event happens on May 4 every year. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, fashion’s biggest night out has been postponed indefinitely.
The museum also announced its immediate closure (through to April 4) after two of its employees showed symptoms of the virus. Because of gatherings of 15 people or more have been banned, the museum later said that it will cancel or postpone all its events and programs.
Luxury Handsanitizer by LVMH
French multinational corporation and conglomerate LVHM will use its perfume factories to produce hand sanitizer. The corporation, who specializes in luxury goods and owns Givenchy, Louis Vuitton, Christian Dior amongst others, will use their resources contribute to the coronavirus epidemic in France.
Some highlights of LVMH’s announcement include the use of the perfume and cosmetic lines to manufacture and deliver the sanitizing gel completely free of charge to French health authorities. 12 tons of hydroalcoholic gel was reportedly produced in its first batch.
Tokyo Fashion Week
Cancelling gatherings with significant amounts of people is no longer news, and as such, multiple fashion shows weren’t given the green light for production.
Thankfully, we live in a very digital age. Rakuten Fashion Week Tokyo will live stream their show through their official website, allowing Japan’s biggest designers to be showcased online, stepping away from large crowds.
