Should we really practice a working-from-home attire?
As the coronavirus pandemic forces companies to move towards working from home and college students are transitioning to online classes, there remains one unanswered question: What do we wear?
Do we wear pajamas? A nice top and jeans? Business casual outfits?
Many would think this is some form of propaganda or excuse to make us shop for a work-from-home-approved wardrobe while being on lockdown.
Personally, I’m seeing how this whole conundrum can actually have a positive and healthy outcome, considering this is worldwide health crisis.
Since no one really sees you working from home, getting ready and looking nice is pretty much self-care, since you’re not getting ready for anyone but yourself. An article from Wall Street Journal quotes on the subject, “Working from home makes you appreciate that there’s no better person to dress for than yourself.” What’s that saying? You feel your best when you look your best. Why don’t we take this time to put it to the test?
Other benefits of wearing work clothes despite working from home go beyond feeling good. It can actually encourage you to be in a more productive mood. It’s as simple as being an action that, in your head, is associated with work and productivity, essentially tricking your mind into feeling you’re at work. It would feel a little odd to watch Netflix on the couch while in your power meeting outfit. Think of it like putting on gym clothes to motivate you to work out.
Another positive benefit is that it will help you get work done. Everything changes when you’re not in your comfy pajamas, from your mood and ideas to the way in which you approach and face things.
By practicing this during the lockdown days, you are encouraging yourself to develop a healthy and productive routine.
