As a result of COVID-19, it is strongly advised for people to stay home or away from the general public since it is a highly contagious disease being spread through human contact. People are seen (from online) social distancing, self-isolating, quarantining, staying six feet away from others and are taking all other sorts of safety precautions to prevent the spread of this virus.

However, even though doing all of this is for our own safety and well-being, that doesn’t mean some people won’t get bored after some time doing nothing. So, here is a list below of free things to try if you’re bored or going out of your mind at home.

  1. Try an online beginner’s yoga class: There are many different yoga tutorials with professional instructors online for free. YouTube has loads of these free tutorial videos that can be quite helpful. Here’s a link to one of the more popular verified YouTube channels for yoga: Yoga with Adriene.
  2.  Practice meditation: This can help with any built up anxiety due to the coronavirus pandemic. There are many meditation tutorial videos found on YouTube, through apps, as well as websites. Here is a free meditation guide on YouTube: 20 Minute Guided Meditation for Reducing Anxiety and Stress.
  3. Read free e-books and audiobooks: Scribd, an American e-book and audiobook subscription service, is offering free access to its library of over one million ebooks, audiobooks, magazines and more for the next 30 days (no commitment or credit card information required.)
  4. Keep up with informative and comedic talk shows: Many talk shows are no longer being carried out in studio, but instead are being filmed by the hosts at their home. Everyday these hosts will be posting a video to their individual YouTube channels as they try to keep creating content for their fans and viewers at home. To see some of these videos, visit Jimmy Kimmel’s Quarantine Minilogue, The Tonight Show- At Home Edition, The Daily Social Distancing Show with Trevor Noah.
  5. Engage in spring cleaning – Now is probably the best time to start clearing out all the clutter that may be in the house, in the backyard or the garage. Not only will this be a great distraction, but it also helps keep your place a lot cleaner which makes it a much more hygienic space to live in.
  6. Go for a jog, walk your dog, or ride your bike around the neighborhood – When social distancing, it is okay to do solo activities. Provided that you stay six feet away from anyone around you, doing any of these activities listed is actually healthy for your mind and body. Focus on your personal health, physical activity levels, health habits and sleep levels. Ensure to maintain your regular daily routine as much as you can, since breaking this daily cycle can lead to anxiety or depression.
