Can Scary Movies Be a Tool and Cultural Resource?
Learn how to use scary movies and other visuals to help understand culture and society at a given time. Students gain insight into how we encode our monsters and gain experience into breaking down the visual language of fear using their own favorite scary film or frightening tale.

Laser Cutter Certification Demonstration
Students will learn the difference between raster engraving and vector cutting and how to set Rhino or Illustrator files to achieve their desired results. Multiple examples of laser processed materials will be shown. Materials, submission requirements, and processing times will be covered. After completing the demonstration and signing the processing agreement, students will be certified to use the laser cutter.

Iconography of Mourning
Funerary architecture, sculpture, and rituals of paying respects to the dead found in modern cemeteries bear the hallmarks of traditions that span across the globe and over thousands of years. This workshop will explore Atlanta’s historic Oakland Cemetery as an opportunity to explore enduring iconographic traditions from ancient Egypt, classical Greece and Rome, and the Victorian era as well as the complex politics of burial and public space in the American South.
