Here are some fun and safe things to do in Atlanta during the Christmas holidays
The Fall quarter is over! SCAD students will finally begin to feel the Christmas spirit in the air. Although we still have one month to go, it’s no harm in checking out the upcoming Christmas events taking place in Atlanta. Planning ahead is always a great thing!
If the fact that the school quarter will finally be over isn’t putting you in the Christmas mood, here is a list of different events that will surely do just that!
- Atlanta Christkindl Market
At this German Christmas market, there will be lots of vendors selling unique gift items, food, and beverages. They will be having the market at two locations – Atlantic Station (a five-minute drive from the SCAD Atlanta main building) and Centennial Olympic Park. In addition to vendors, there will also be live performances, and other fun activities for visitors to do!
Admission is free for this event. The market opens from Friday, Nov. 20, through Monday, Dec. 28.

- Lakeside Lights Spectacular
This event is located an hour’s drive away from Atlanta, but the long drive is worth it! This year, the all-new Lakeside Lights Spectacular (changed from the drive-thru event called “Magical Nights of Lights”) will be allowing visitors to take a stroll through their Christmas display set to holiday tunes. Hot cocoa or cocktails are available while walking, and guests can also have a chance to meet Santa, ride carnival rides, and take part in other holiday-themed activities, all in a social-distanced setting.
Date: Friday, Nov. 20, through Tuesday, Jan. 5 2021.

- Watch the ‘Nutcracker’ performed by the Atlanta Ballet
From the comfort of cars, students have the opportunity to experience watching a filmed version of the ‘Nutcracker’ performed by the Atlanta Ballet. According to the Atlanta Ballet’s website, “for five nights in December, Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre’s surface lot will be transformed into a pop-up drive-in movie theatre.”
Date: Wednesday, Dec. 2, through Sunday, Dec. 6.

- Visit the Christmas Lights at Atlanta Botanical Garden
If Lake Lanier is too far to go to see the Christmas lights, that’s no issue! Right here in Atlanta, we’ve got our own Christmas lights show that you can attend. At this event, there will be spectacular lighted sculptures from the blockbuster exhibition, “Alice in Wonderland”. This event runs through Jan. 2021.
Please note that it is highly recommended that tickets should be bought early due to the reduction of capacity at the event. The host of this event is taking the safety of staff and guests very seriously, and therefore students should read the safety rules and guidelines on their website, and follow them.
