To wear or not to wear: Sweaters with animal motifs
While working retail during these cold days, I have come very close to all kinds of sweaters.
I feel like I have already seen it all between the variety of cable knit, solid colored, houndstooth and fair aisle ones. But I just realized that the animal themed sweaters are becoming insanely popular.
The most favored ones right now are the sheep themed sweaters and vests which are shared all over TikTok, Instagram and sold by your favorite brand.
I give credit where it’s due, and it first goes towards Princess Diana and her iconic red sheep sweater that she wore to a polo match in 1981. The next day, this ‘sheep jumper’ made the front pages of newspapers.
But how it made a comeback is thanks to Harry Styles, who stepped out in a blue sheep sweater vest on November of last year. Styles wore a different variation of it but still reminded fans and fashion enthusiasts of Lady D’s version.
How is this sweater still living rent-free in people’s minds a year later? I don’t have all the answers, but I do know that most Harry Styles fans recreate his looks since they are considered to be elegant and fashionable.
And it looks like the blue sheep sweater vest caught his fan’s eye because he wore it with so well with all that confidence, that many of us forgot that this is a sweater with a repetition of multiple sheep.
I don’t hate these animal motif sweaters, thought I don’t yet own one. I’m currently thinking about how I can pull it off, and to my understanding it can either pass excellently or fail horribly, depending on how you style it.
You can probably pair it with some fun pants just like Styles did, or you can follow Princess Diana and wear a white collared blouse underneath it along with a black bow in the middle.
The point is, it should not look tacky rather fashionable and modern in an acceptable way. And keep in mind that it will look cheesy because wearing sheep, cows or dogs in your sweater is automatically cheesy and there is nothing we can do about it!
This said, I’ll probably give that cream sweater with a black Schnauzer and red bow a genuine try this time. Watch everyone at my job give me a second look as I flaunt this cheesy sweater!
