A eulogy for fans of ‘The Office’
Undoubtedly, the major streaming network, Netflix has been there to help us cope with break-ups, boring nights, and staycations. It’s an ad-free way to access major TV shows like Glee, Gray’s Anatomy, and Blacklist without an expensive monthly cable bill. However, one show, in particular, has ultimately caused Netflix customers to contemplate the point of their membership: “The Office.”
“The Office” (U.S.) is an American sitcom that contains nine seasons. It first aired from March 2005 to May 2013. It’s based on its BBC original series “The Office” (U.K.). Developed by Greg Daniels, “The Office” is based on the daily office culture of Dunder Mifflin Paper Company located in Scranton, PA. It guest stars Will Ferrel, Conan O’Brien, and Mindy Kaling along with the main cast of Steve Carrell, John Krasinski, and Jenna Fischer. Interestingly enough, the show has millions of fans, raking in 45.8 billion watch minutes on Netflix. To put this into perspective, “Stranger Things,” another Netflix mega-hit, brings in roughly 27.6 billion watch minutes.
Now with all the stats, amazing actors, and heart-felt episodes this series has, it will soon be taken off Netflix before the new year as the show will be licensed to Peacock, which is owned by NBCUniversal. Due to this decision, many fans have contemplated leaving Netflix on New Year’s Eve just so they can enjoy Steve Carrel demonstrate what a true manager looks like over the holiday season. Now, Netflix has many shows to profit from, but losing this one is hard. To which Michael Scott responds, “That’s what she said.”
