Kamala Harris: Setting a precedent for fashion in the White House
On January 20th, 2021, Vice President-elect Kamala Harris will be sworn into office as the first Black woman to perform the duties of Vice President of the United States. As history will tell, inauguration day is one of the nation’s most important celebratory events, which causes the global eye to focus on America. That being the case, the outfit and designer she chooses to wear is very important.
In the past, all of America’s Vice Presidents have been men. Now that a woman has won the position, the clothing she chooses to wear will send a message and set a precedent for other women running for Vice President in the future. This responsibility of guiding the balance of politics and fashion is not one that can be easy, but for Kamala Harris, it’s an important task.
Thus far, she has utilized pant suits as her fashion staple. The tailored blazer on top of the pants or skirt combo can be seen in her daily wardrobe. Especially the very formal all-white combination she struck the world in on election night.
On Inauguration Day however, we will see Vice President-elect Kamala Harris in her most formal attire while taking the oath of office. Fortunately for her, she’ll be setting the standard for the White House should expect for the next four years.
